Why I use social media – Mobile DJ – Wedding Industry

October 19, 2009 1 comment

On 5/31/2009 I started a thread on a popular DJ forum. It was entitled “the wave of the future.”

It had a link to a short introduction to “googlewave” I made the thread in May of this year to introduce social media to the forum members. It has got some good responses and some negative ones too. It is really hard to believe, especially people in business not incorporating some sort of social media tool in their business? At the minimum make a “twitter” accounts for your business and connect with clients, customers, and other business professionals.

Here is my update to the forum:

I would highly recommend this social media communication tool! “tweetdeck” and its free. The newest version has integrated “facebook” & “myspace.”

Now, I can check my “twitter” stream and communicate with thousands of people online, and now from the same application I can also check my “facebook” & “myspace” status without ever going to the web or another application. Now you can update your status on “facebook”, and comment right on “tweetdeck!” upload/download photos, videos, and links.

I recently, made a flyer for a wedding expo coming up this fall. Upon completion, I saved it to my computer, and then on “tweetdeck” I uploaded the flyer with a short captivating headline and sent it via “twitter” to my followers.

Don’t know who is on “twitter” in your demographic area? There are applications that help you connect with local people, businesses using “twitter!” 17 ways to connect with local people

Here is the Beauty of “tweetdeck” There is an option to send to different media sources included multiple “twitter” accounts, “facebook,” or “myspace.” The flyer I made was sent via “twitter” but I also clicked post to “facebook” and “myspace” Yes! With one click I sent out the Wedding Expo advertisement to 3 social media outlets! With a short headline, the actual advertisement, and a link!

Amazing!

Oh! And yes you can track keywords on “tweetdeck” as they pertain to your business. I track: weddings, engaged, Quinceañera, mobile dj, music, tucsondj, etc.

Now mind you, there are millions of people on “twitter,” so you will see the stream with those keywords from around the world, but you can easily narrow down your results be adding your state, county, or city to your keywords.

Lastly, “hootsuite” is another “twitter” application that has powerful built in tools for statistic tracking of your content. Send an ad campaign with it; track the stats to see how it did! Did it work? Change the headline? Try something new, etc. With this tool you can easily track advertisements, online promotions, coupons, contests, and content you post via “twitter.”

And most importantly, connect, share, learn, and get feedback from your friends and other business professionals! don’t just spam stuff out there, one thing about social media – people hate spammers!

Social interaction is social media! Have an awesome day! ~ Pete

Wedding – Quinceanera – Special Event – Tip-1

September 11, 2009 Leave a comment

Plan Early!

When planning a Wedding, Quinceanera, or special event, planning early is one of the keys to a successful event. Many of the top vendors are booked months in advance, and for good reason! Makes sense? The best photographers, videographers, limo services, caterers, and even venues and churches are booked months, even years in advance! Why? Because they are the best, and are in demand….simple.

We have several bookings for 2010 already, and I am sure many top vendors in the industry are booking already way in advance. By booking early, not only will you receive the top choices in vendors you are looking for, and the availability, but you will sometimes get the best prices too. Unfortunately, many people wait until the last months or even the last week! To look for vendors for such an important day.

Waiting to the last minute just makes the choices very limited and you may even have to settle for less than average, mediocre services, or even worse! Too many nightmare stories to put into this installment, but good luck and remember to start planning early!

Remember, the old saying “how time flies” well its true especially when planning a Wedding, Quinceanera, or a special event.

Thank you – Pete

80th Surprise Birthday Party

The location was out of Tucson again, It seems that more of the bookings are coming from out of the Tucson area.

First, it was rather difficult to find the location. American Legion post somewhere hidden away in some residential area near a park. The set-up was quick, and enjoyed listening to a Trio group that were playing during the dinner hour. The night started of with a cumbia: Rosa Maria, which was requested by the guest of honor.

There is a wide variety of music that is played at an 80th birthday party. The age ranges are literally from 8 to 80! and, we had people attending fromdifferent parts of the country including: Kansas, Florida, and California. I found it a Little tough trying to please everyone, and make sure the guest of honor was having a good time. I received a lot of compliments and people had a good time, which was all that matters in the end.

Wow! I was exhausted, mentally, and musically! Lot’s of line dances, Mexican, music, Rancheras, Old School, Disco, and some Freestyle for the guests from Miami, Florida. Also, played some older Mexican music including: Boleros, Rumberos, and Cha Cha Cha.

The guest of honor departed early, he said: “baile muncho! gracias!” That is all that really makes my job full-filling, when we can bring some happiness to people, and the world through music.

Military Intelligence Ball 2009

Military Intelligence Ball

Fort Huachuca, Arizona

The MI ball was a very successful event! The drive down to Ft. Huachuca was very pleasant; it’s about a 2hr drive from Tucson. The temperature drops about 15 degrees in that part of Arizona compared to Tucson, and it even started monsoon on the way over!

I had the entire stage to set-up, and I was very familiar with the building, which logistically helps when setting up equipment. The staff was busy filling up the tea and water, while the bartenders prepared their register as the A/V person was setting up a video presentation from Congresswoman Gabrielle Gifford’s.

Dinner Military Ball

1800 Wine tasting and social hour was the first thing on the agenda. A Military Jazz band was scheduled to play during the social hour, which gave me some time to relax and enjoy the band. Around 1915 a call to be seated by the Master of Ceremonies Lt.Col. Monard, followed by the Introductions of the head tables, posting of the colors, the National Anthem, and the Invocation by Col. Day. (this is one of my favorite parts of a military event)

Posting of the Colors - MI Ball

1950 Immediately after, the toasts, the dinner began. It was my turn to play some background music for the dinner hour. I played a some lite jazz, Sinatra, Tony Bennet, King Cole, Buble, D. Martin, Platters, Mathis, and other standards from those eras.

2100 After dinner, the presentation of Congresswomen Gifford’s began, and the keynote address form Major General Custer.

I was really impressed by the speech that MG Custer gave. I was also surprised and at the same time impressed to see three Generals in the US Army as well as high ranking officers from our allies: Afghanistan Coalition Forces, S. Korea, and Turkey. I guess I was really impressed by their uniforms, insignias, colors, and medals!

2120 The colors were retired by the color guard for the evening. It was time to party!! This is where I feel most comfortable. I began with Get down Tonight – KC & The Sunshine Band! The ages were mixed form young 20+ men & women to an older generation around 50-60. The music list consisted mostly of Classic Rock, Oldies, Top-10, a little Country, and very little Hip-Hop if any.

MI Ball

I stuck to the playlist at first: then one of the young ladies came up and said “is this going to be to be the agenda for the whole night?” I said no way! I am here to play for you! So I changed it up a little. I segued into Poker Face by Lady Gaga, and some Usher – Yeah! It was an awesome night to say the least! I was surprised at some of the request. Madonna by one of the General’s, It’s Raining Men by the Weather Girls, and White Lines by Grand Master Flash! Lots of Line dance music too! Cha-Cha Slide, Electric Boogie, YMCA, Quad City DJ’s, Cupid Shuffle Twice! The dance floor was packed all night! All up-beat fun music, I only played two slow songs that evening: My Girl by the Temptations, and Neon Moon by Brooks & Dunn. Last song was Last Dance by Donna Summer.

Thank you to all the men & women in the armed forces, I had a wonderful time.

I dedicate this blog entry to my uncles:

† Theodore Coronado: WWII Veteran

† Julio Coronado: Korean War Veteran

Alejandro Rodriguez: Vietnam Veteran

(if you would like a copy of the playlist that was approved, send my an e-mail)
